OffsiteDataSync has a strong relationship with Veeam. We were one of the first to join the Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) program and achieve Platinum status. We are the largest VCSP with Veeam Accredited Service Partner designation. We’ve been named VCSP Partner of the Year repeatedly. And just months ago, we were a winner in their Innovation Awards at VeeamON 2020.

Our relationship is built upon a mutual respect for each other’s knowledge. In fact, we seek out engineers with expertise around Veeam to provide our clients with the highest levels of data protection services. Our team not only holds Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certifications, two of our architects are Veeam Vanguards, an elite group of the top 68 Veeam experts worldwide. One of those is our Senior Cloud Architect, Brad Jervis, and they recently sought him out for an edition of the Veeam Vanguard Webinar Series.

If you weren’t able to join “3-2-1 Backup – Critical to (Cyber) Security Strategy,” no worries. The following is some of what you missed and why we’re making this important webinar available on demand.

Backing up to stay out front

Backing up data is a key part of any security strategy, especially when it comes to cyberattacks. Brad’s real-world experience enabled him to show attendees how to modernize their data protection strategy and diminish vulnerabilities with the use of Veeam cloud-based services.

As he discussed, the 3-2-1 backup rule is the standard for keeping data safe in almost any failure or disaster scenario – and for keeping companies ahead of competitors with greater uptime. In a nutshell, the rule says to always keep at least three copies of your data using at least two different forms of media (tape, disk, cloud, etc.), and one copy should be stored offsite.

It’s a best practice that has implications that go beyond just data protection – it can affect cybersecurity. There are four signs that show defenses might be in jeopardy of failing, including a lack of preparation for zero day, multi vector and polymorphic attacks, cybersecurity workplace culture and the threat of third party risks (did you know 56% of organizations are breached by vendors?). The fourth sign deals with insufficient incident response plans, including failing to follow the 3-2-1 rule for backup and testing.

Unfortunately, there’s no 100% foolproof way to prevent intruders from getting into a company’s environment. Cyber criminals are always working on new methods to get around security technology and it’s often just a matter of time before they figure it out. A better approach is to assume bad actors will gain access and to develop a plan that best mitigates risk, and equally important, will get data back up and available to users as soon as possible.

Sneak peek

While we haven’t officially taken the wraps off AutoRecover – our soon-to-be-unveiled offering that won a 2020 Veeam Innovation Award – Brad provided a sneak peek. Already, the service has generated a good deal of chatter due to its ability to restore backups directly to a vCloud director environment for disaster recovery, testing, validation and compliance initiatives.

In particular, Brad outlined five ways AutoRecover boosts cybersecurity, including:

  • Fast and verifiable recovery and one click failover
  • Providing customers with one platform to create backups, snapshots and replications
  • Safe and easy deployment and testing
  • Expert managed services and monitoring
  • User friendly portal for management

Take it away!

Webinar attendees walked away with a number of key takeaways, just a few being:

  • Comprehensive understanding of protection for backups, Office 365 and disaster recovery
  • How to ease data protection management to reduce daily operational burden
  • Insight into automation and orchestration for disaster recovery
  • A look at data reuse and insights via virtual development and testing environments
  • Everything you need to know about the 3-2-1 rule and its application

Don’t worry, though, if you missed the live webinar – it’s still available on-demand. Here’s where you can find the Veeam Vanguard Webinar Series and Brad’s presentation, “3-2-1 Backup – Critical to (Cyber) Security Strategy!”
